When a couple divorces, decisions are made based on the information all parties have at that time. It is not unusual, however, for the needs of one or more of the parties to change over time. That is why Utah permits modifications to parts of the divorce decree.
Stavros Law, P.C., can assist you with divorce decree modifications, whether you are the party seeking or refuting the change. Even minor modifications require approval from the court. Our divorce attorney can guide you through the process and ensure that your rights are protected. For a free consultation, please call our Salt Lake City office at 801-428-0719.
What Can You Modify?
Only certain parts of the divorce decree may be modified. Some decisions, such as property and asset division, are considered final and may not be modified. In Utah, you can modify the following parts of the divorce decree:
To modify any of these orders, there must be a significant and material change in circumstances of at least one of the parties. This may include a job loss, the changing needs of a child, relocation, remarriage, or a parent or child whose health has declined.
If the modification cannot be resolved out of court, we can represent you at trial. You can rely on us to fight as hard as necessary to protect your rights.
