The Appellate Process
Overturning or defending a court decision requires an attorney with the skill, dedication and experience to do the work necessary for an appeal. Your attorney must also know the courts and have experience at the state and federal levels. He or she must be thoroughly familiar with appellate procedures and deadlines.
The appellate court does not conduct a new trial. It reviews the record of the lower court trial for legal errors. The appellate court also receives briefs from each attorney and may hear oral arguments. The rules and procedures of an appeal are quite different from a regular trial. Your attorney must be skilled in this specialty and able to produce convincing arguments within the restrictive confines of the appeals process.
There are many good trial lawyers who are not good appellate attorneys; however, Stavros Law has achieved success in both arenas.
