The evaluation is limited to a review of the information you provide to determine whether your matter is a case we are willing to take on — it does not include the provision of legal advice or a legal analysis of your claims. Do you offer a free case evaluation for clients seeking to file a lawsuit?
Yes. Our free case evaluation includes a review of your case to see if we can represent you in a lawsuit. It does not include providing legal advice to you. We will review information you provide to us and let you know if we can assist you with your case and the terms under which we can assist you. For consultations seeking legal advice on an ongoing matter, we charge an initial consultation fee (the fee is based upon the experience of the attorney meeting with you) and hourly rates. For example, if you are seeking advice about whether to sign a severance agreement or non-compete agreement and want to know your rights or whether the agreement is enforceable, we charge a fee to meet with you, review the agreement, and provide legal advice. Or if you are seeking advice on a current business issue, we charge a fee to review your situation, meet with you, and provide legal advice. The evaluation is limited to an assessment of the information you provide to us and whether we are willing to take on the case, including what type of fee arrangement we would consider. We do not provide a legal analysis of your claim or information regarding the strength or weakness of your claim.
Do you offer a free case evaluation for all types of cases?
No. Stavros Law offers a free consultation to individuals who are looking to determine whether they have a lawsuit that we can assist them with and act as trial counsel. For example, if you are looking to see if you can sue for breach of contract, we offer a free case review. Or, if you have been terminated from your employment and you want to see if you have a wrongful termination claim, we offer a free case evaluation to evaluate your claim and determine if we can assist you. However, we do not offer case evaluations where you are simply looking for legal advice from a lawyer or for a lawyer to provide a free legal assessment for you. In those situations, we charge a consultation fee to meet with you and provide advice on an hourly fee basis. The provision of legal advice to you is not included as part of the free case evaluation.
What information should I provide as part of my case evaluation?
You should first reach out to us and let us know who the adverse party is that you are seeking to assert a claim against before sending us personal information or details about your case. Once you do that, and we confirm we do not have a conflict of interest, you can send additional information to us (and we may request additional information from you). The information you send should include a clear and concise timeline of events with dates and other pertinent information related to your case. If the information we have requested is not provided, we will not represent you and will decline to do so. So, make sure to provide all information requested. Once we review this initial information, we can request other relevant items and information from you — including relevant documents — and set up a meeting if we determine you have a case we can assist you with. Please do not send AI generated content as part of your intake information.
Do you perform work on a contingency fee basis?
Yes, we take cases on a contingency fee basis. A contingency fee is an arrangement where we only get paid attorney fees if we obtain a recovery for you. Our contingency fee percentage varies depending on the type of case and length of the case. Before we take your case on a contingency fee basis, we will send you a written fee agreement to review and sign that outlines how we charge for our services, and what costs you are responsible for (other than attorney fees).
What other types of fee arrangements do you offer?
Depending on your situation, we offer a variety of fee arrangements, including hourly rate fee agreements, hybrid fee agreements (reduced hourly rate plus a contingency fee percentage), fixed fee arrangements (an agreed upon total for the representation), and flexible fee arrangements. Do you perform work for clients on a reduced fee basis?
Every year we offer pro bono services or reduced fee services to a number of clients, based upon financial need, hardship, and other factors. These representations are limited to individuals who have a demonstrated financial need or hardship and are based upon current workload and available resources. Please email us and provide information concerning your hardship if you would like to be considered for a reduced fee representation.
